The founding director of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC has been named to the inaugural class of fellows by the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine.

Michael Friedlander, vice president of health sciences and technology at Virginia Tech, was recognized for outstanding contributions to the scientific community and society.

The Society of Experimental Biology and Medicine, founded in 1903, encourages collaboration between scientific disciplines in biomedical research. It publishes a peer-reviewed scientific journal, Experimental Biology and Medicine.

Friedlander is also a board member for the Valleys Innovation Council.
