Blacksburg software company Ozmo will add 40 jobs as the 3-year-old startup plans a major expansion over the next year, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Monday.

Ozmo spun out of local digital consulting firm Modea in 2016. It builds software to help customer service agents or consumers troubleshoot and fix issues on mobile devices.\
David Catalano, a co-founder of Modea, took the reins as CEO of the new venture. At launch it employed 59 people, but that grew as the startup added customers like Verizon and TELUS.
Ozmo now employs 70 people in downtown Blacksburg, and plans to add the 40 new positions over the next year to the product, engineering and digital content teams, according to a company spokeswoman.
According to Monday’s news release from the governor’s office, Ozmo’s software is used by more than 75,000 contact center agents and assists in 25 million support interactions each year.
“Ozmo is doubling down on its commitment to growing in downtown Blacksburg,” Catalano said in the news release. “Our proximity to Virginia Tech provides us a unique advantage of access to top talent, while also being able to offer exceptional quality of life for our employees. We look forward to growing locally in order to support the increasing demand for our products worldwide.”
