Blacksburg’s Torc Robotics helps launch self-driving shuttle bus service in France

An autonomous shuttle bus service is about to launch in France, powered in large part by Blacksburg ingenuity.

Torc Robotics has licensed its self-driving vehicle technology to Transdev, an international transportation giant, to develop a small shuttle bus that can carry up to 16 passengers.

Not only does the so-called i-Cristal not require a bus driver — it doesn’t have a steering wheel or pedals.

“Ultimately our goal with developing self-driving technology is to save lives and make transportation more affordable and efficient,” Torc CEO Michael Fleming said in a Monday press release.
