Radford chamber sets its sight on young professionals

The city Chamber of Commerce is hoping to retain young talent in the New River Valley with its newly founded Radford Young Professionals Network.

The group is the brainchild of chamber President Onassis Burress, who said while living in Columbus, Georgia he saw similar groups have tremendous success working with that community sector.

“It’s really designed to give a platform to that cohort between 21 and 40 years old, focusing on how we improve their leadership skills and how do we get them engaged in the community and how we continue to develop them as a future leader within the area,” Burress said. “I think it’s going to be phenomenal if it takes off the way I think it will take off.”

He said he’d like the group to be less about networking and “grabbing drinks together” and more about creating a network of individuals who want to be leaders.
